Fried Green Tomatoes


  • Sliced green tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup Parmesean cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup mik
  • oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Salsa
  • Sour Cream
  • Extra salt

Wash & core green tomatoes. Slice approximately 1/4" thick. (if you discover some are ripening on the inside they will also work.) Soak the tomato slices in a salt water solution (about 1 teaspoon to 1 quart of water) for about 20-30 minutes. This helps take away any bitterness. Blend dry ingredients including salt & pepper if desired. Mix egg & milk. Heat pan or griddle to about medium or medium-high. Lightly coat bottom of pan with oil. Drain tomato slices and dip them in the egg wash and then in your breading mixture. Fry until tender and brown on each side. Serve with salsa and/or sour cream.

*Note I prefer to use the center slices and reserve the bottoms and core slices with the hole for green tomato bread. (Recipe on our website) Be sure to keep enough oil in the pan to prevent the slices from browning before they are tender.
